About Duncan & Allen
Duncan & Allen is a Washington, D.C.-based law firm whose roots go back to the
early 1930's. In our current configuration, we have provided legal services to the
U.S. domestic energy and international natural resource communities since 1970.
Approximately 80% of our work involves representing consumer-owned electric utilities
and other public power entities throughout the United States, its possessions and
territories.
We work primarily with municipally owned and cooperatively owned electric
systems, both established and in their formative stages, on matters ranging from
everyday interconnected utility operations to long-range strategic counseling. Typically,
every week of the year, at least one Duncan & Allen lawyer is 500 miles or more
from home providing on-site legal services to clients.
About 10% of our work involves assistance to foreign governments, the World Bank,
other international institutions and private companies on natural resource-related
matters, primarily in the fields of mining and petroleum development.
For nearly
20 years, we maintained branch offices in sub-Saharan Africa. They included offices
fully staffed by U.S. and local lawyers in Kinshasa, Zaire, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast
and in Nairobi, Kenya. Since 1990, we have continued our international practice
in the English, Spanish and French languages from our Washington, D.C. office.
In
a typical year, the partner in charge of our international practice spends between
three and four months abroad providing legal services in Asia, South America, the
Middle East and/or Africa.
Nearly 10% of our work involves matters of general civil litigation (such as breach
of contract disputes, employment issues, and construction litigation), which covers
a diverse range of cases in courts and dispute resolution proceedings throughout
the U.S.
